Where are you located?
We’re based inside Barber Jay in Guernsey, so you’ll be training in the heart of a live barbershop environment. This means you get to experience real clients, a buzzing shop atmosphere, and hands-on learning from day one.
No need to travel to the UK for training.
What age range do you accept?
Students must be 16 or older. There’s no upper age limit — barbering is open to anyone looking for a new career or skill.
Do I need to buy my own kit?
We provide training kits and doll heads, which you can purchase directly from us. By Level 3, most students already own their full kit, but extras are available if needed.
Is a Taster Day required?
Yes. A Taster Day is required before joining any of our Level 1, 2 or 3 courses. It’s your chance to see the Academy, try out barbering, and be sure it’s the right path for you.
You do not need a taster day if you are wanting to book onto the 1 Day Course: Booked, Busy & Balanced, it’s highly recommended to have 1 years experience working in the hair industry before doing this course.
I am a Barbershop owner, can I enrol my staff on a course?
Yes. If you’re a barbershop owner, you can put your staff on our courses to upskill them or help new team members get fully qualified. Training at Barber Jay Academy is flexible, so we can work around shop schedules to make sure your team gets the skills they need without disrupting your business.

Do I need any experience to join?
No. Our Intro to Barbering course is designed for complete beginners. You’ll progress step by step into Level 2 and Level 3.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. We offer flexible payment plans to help spread the cost, as well as discounted bundles if you enrol on multiple courses together.
How flexible is the schedule?
Very. We don’t follow an academic calendar — you can start at any time and attend up to 6 days a week.
